Malaysian 10 cent coin Year 1971 variety 3

This is the only 10 cent 1971 left in my humble collection right now, all the Variety 2 was sold a few years back when I decided to raise some cash for a new business venture.

You can read how I found a circulated 10 cent 1971 here about 4 years ago here.
And some of the 10 cent 1971 V2 UNC that I bought here and here.

Keep on collecting!

10 cent 1971 found while paying for my mihun goreng seafood!

Here is the story:

I was scrambling my pocket for loose change to pay my RM6.10 bill (mihun goreng seafood + milo kosong) when I stumbled upon this 10 cent Malaysian parliment coin. Considering it was a parliament I decided not to give it to the waiter, a friend of mine volunteer to help me using a bunga raya coin (that what a friend is for).

Only after paying it that I realized that the 10 cent parliament I was holding is from 1971. I immediately burst into laughter since it is very hard to find it in any condition and what more I am that close from using it.

The coin is in good condition without any dent or deep scratch but it is in dark color due to stains. I am not so sure if cleaning the coin is a good idea. Anyone can help?

Well, this find surely makes my day. I am smiling  from work to home. :)

Cheers

My Second 10 cent 1971 coin has arrived

I have decided to add another piece of this 1971 10 cent Malaysian Parliament series to my collection. I bought it through ebay Malaysia and it arrived to my mailbox after 3 days of waiting. See? I am an online buyer too, I am saying that because some of my interested buyer are reluctant to buy things that involve shipment and would prefer COD. If you trust the seller than no problem will arise, fingers crossed.

1971 10 cent coin UNC

Back to the story, this coin is  valued higher because of its low mintage which is only 32,236. The other 10 cents mintage is into the millions. This one only 30 thousands. Go figure. The reason for the low mintage varies from some stories ranging from flood hitting the minting factories to closure.

This particular coin is very hard to find here in Sabah. The antique shop is selling it far more than what it is supposed to be selling. Well you can't blame them since the price is subjective and depends on the demand from buyers. That's why the reference books can't be used all the time.

Hopefully the value is going up again the near future. I also hope that more people(younger ones) will take up this coin and banknotes collecting hobby. That is more important. I know this hobby is a bit expensive, but start from scratch taking it easy and slowly. When you see that your collection is growing and getting it complete then that is where the fun is.

Cheers.

One in 32,236 coins has arrived. The 1971 10 cent coin.

I guess I got a good deal yesterday and decided to buy this coin for my collection. That coin is none other than the rarest coin in Malaysian Parliament series history, the Malaysian 10 cent coin(except if you count the 1 cent bronze and nickel, or 50 cent freaks without security edge). That completes my coin collection from 1 cent, 5 cent, 10cent, 20 cent, 50 cent, RM1 and RM1 big size.

This coin is  valued higher because of its low mintage which is only 32,236. The other 10 cents mintage is into the millions. This one only 30 thousands. Go figure.

Who knows maybe in 5 years time this coin will be worth RM1000? Haha wishful thinking maybe. Anyway, do you guys have this coin in your collection? Share the pics please. Tq

Cheers.
